Giacomo FILIBECK - Foundation for European Progressive Studies

Giacomo FILIBECK


Born in Rome in 1978, Giacomo Filibeck has been active since 1997 in European student unions and joined the leadership of OBESSU (Organizing Bureau of European School Students Unions) in 1997.

From 2002 to 2009, he was president of the European Youth Forum (platform of youth organizations for consultations on youth policies of the European institutions) and of Young European Socialists (YES), on behalf of which he was a member of the PES Presidency. He took part in the most significant consultation processes in recent years within the EU, the Council of Europe, the UN and the World Bank.

In addition, between 2002 and 2004 he was President of the Youth Convention on the Future of Europe and participated as an observer in the plenary sessions of the Convention for the drafting of the European Constitutional Treaty by contributing to innovative articles related to youth policy.

In 2010 he joined the international department of Partito Democratico in Italy where he was in charge of the Middle East, the Mediterranean region and Africa. He therefore followed closely the ‘Arab spring’ events, supporting movements calling for democracy and respect of human rights.

In 2013 Filibeck became the chair of Partito Democratico’s foreign policy forum. Between 2014 and 2015 he served as director of the international relations office of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture.

Giacomo Filibeck is currently the Secretary General of the Party of European Socialists. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and a Master’s degree from INSEAD.
