1st meeting (closed seminar)

Aiming to put forward a progressive energy agenda, FEPS together with IPPR (Institute for Public Policy Research, UK) is establishing a focus group and a series of closed seminars with invited experts from a range of fields to discuss energy issues. This being the first one, the discussion will look at the EU 2030 energy package and wider European cooperation on energy policy.

–      Introduction from Ernst Stetter, Secretary General of FEPS.

The energy project will be presented to the group and it will be explained what is expected from the members

–      Presentation from Clare McNeil, Senior Research Fellow at IPPR

The two-year desk research project “A Progressive Energy agenda for Europe” will be outlined to the group

–      Introduction and presentations from the members of the focus group

Each member should introduce themselves and where suitable can also introduce what their organisation has produced or is working on.

It will be an open discussion to give analysis on the focus of the planned research project and also to highlight the main priorities each member feels should be given special attention during the research

–      What should progressive priorities be for upcoming negotiations around the EU 2030 energy package?

13:00 – 14:00 Session 2:Wider European cooperation on energy policy

Debate to address some of the following key questions:

–      What has happened to ambitions for greater European integration on energy policy?

–      What are the main obstacles for achieving a single European energy market?

–      How can progressives restore momentum in this area?

–      How can political leadership be revitalised to achieve more grid expansion and interconnection in line with European priorities?
